The 2023 ESPY Awards Red Carpet was a style showcase for the Pros.

The 2023 ESPY Awards Red Carpet was a style showcase for the Pros. A who’s who of the world of professional sports gathered at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles to celebrate each other while getting the opportunity to show off their fashion sense. The red carpet featured a diverse group of Pros and celebrated athletic excellence across a wide range of sports. Here is a recap of some of the looks and trends from the event.

An all black outfit is a timeless red carpet staple. Many Pros chose black and utilized unique details to set themselves apart. Jamaal Murray paired his short collared black shirt with white sneakers. Jalen Ramsey went a more casual route with his Nahmias matching set. An embellished harness added interest to Mookie Betts’ black suit. Lebron James arrived with his family in a short-collared suit jacket accessorized with jeweled pins. These takes on an all-black look were simple but classic.

Some Pros opted to stand out on the red carpet in bold prints. Two examples were Jonathan Kuminga and Malcolm Jenkins. Kuminga walked the red carpet in a custom houndstooth suit by LaTouché. Jenkins thought even more outside of the box with his look. He arrived in silk jacket, button-down, and pant printed with a swirl of orange, yellow, and black. These athletes expressed themselves with unique, statement styles.

Color made a splash on the red carpet with several athletes choosing standout shades for their looks. Joe Haden stuck with a color from his days on the field and styled a brown suit with Nike Air Force 1s in a complementary shade. Jerry Jacobs also alluded to his team in a royal blue three-piece suit that wasn’t far from the Honolulu blue of the Detroit Lions. Xavier McKinney wore a custom, powder blue suit from Rich Fresh. Erik Kendricks mixed it up by wearing a light peach and blue crinkled shirt with matching light peach pants. Color offers endless options to make a splash on the red carpet.

Another increasingly popular trend is going shirtless underneath a suit. Dion Dawkins took this to another level at the ESPYs with his custom Gentleman’s Playbook fit. The offensive lineman used his tattoos as an accessory while wearing an emerald green suit with an unbuttoned blazer. Patrick Mahomes also joined in on the trend in a cream Boss suit. The shirtless look is a fun way to change up a suit for little more laid back effect.

Some other looks from the red carpet included similar looks from Draymond Green and Jrue Holiday. Green wore a camel colored blazer with green and black accents and black trousers with green stripes down the side. Holiday chose a dark green version of the blazer and black trousers with green accents by Rich Fresh. Damar Hamlin opted for a classic tuxedo that let his moment on the ESPYs stage shine. All three of these men added their own flair to their red carpet appearance.

Female Pros also rocked the red carpet. They styled looks with different textures, materials, and colors. Skyler Diggins-Smith walked the red carpet in a brown, fringed Herve Leger dress. Sue Bird showed off her signature experimental style with a tan, lace Gucci set. In a remix of traditional menswear, Renee Montgomery wore an all black look that included a silk shirt, trouser, and cummerbund. We look forward to seeing female athletes make their mark on the red carpet more frequently in the future.

The ESPY awards are our annual chance to see athletes of all sports together in a celebration of athletic ability. The award show also offers a chance to observe sartorial talent. This year, we received a glimpse into the trends and styles that Pros are loving. After this showing, we look forward to the performances and looks from all of our favorite stars that we’ll get to honor next year.
