Los Angeles-based streetwear designer and founder of fashion label 424, Guillermo Andrade, has been officially named Creative Advisor to the Leagues Cup for 2023, the annual, month-long tournament featuring teams from U.S. professional soccer league MLS and Mexican football league Liga MX. In the role, Andrade will create fan apparel as well as storytelling content for the tournament this summer that will focus on soccer, fashion, art, and design. The Leagues Cup tournament consists of 77 matches running from July 21st until August 19th. His designs will be available for purchase both in stadiums and third-party retail partners when the tournament begins.
Andrade, having grown up a lifelong soccer fan, is excited for his new role. “Soccer is my first love. It was the first thing when I was a kid that made me feel completely alive,” Andrade said. “The players were my first superheroes, and it has never stopped. It has always represented a positive thing in my life.”
On top of his new role of creating and designing a new line of fan merch for the Leagues Cup, his own personal story of how Andrade emigrated from Guatemala to the U.S. at the young age of 9 will come to life on a documentary series distributed through Apple TV+. During his earlier years, Andrade grew up watching his father play the game and eventually landed himself on a select team in Los Angeles, the Central Marin Jaguars, playing for the club from the age of 12-19.
Andrade has had a big impact in the streetwear scene in Los Angeles since he started his business 13 years ago. He launched his 424 store on Fairfax in 2010 and was one of the first to sell major brands such as Rhude, Fear of God, Martine Rose, and many others.
