All good things must come to an end, which happened Monday when Raf Simons announced he was closing his influential menswear label which he started in 1995 that turned into a mainstay on major runways worn on countless Pros throughout the years. The shocking news was made in a brief statement that was posted to the brands social media channels where Simons confirmed that his recently debuted Spring/Summer 2023 collection was the imprint's last effort, before thanking everyone who worked with the fashion brand over the last three decades.
'The Spring/Summer 2023 collection is the conclusion of an extraordinary 27 year journey and the final season of Raf Simons fashion brand," the designer stated. He went on to later say, "I lack the words to share how proud I am of all that we have achieved. I am greatful for the incredible support from my team, from my collaborators, from the press and buyers, from my friends and family, and from our devoted fan and loyal followers." He concluded, "Thank you all, for believing in our vision and for believing in me."
Over the past 30 years, Simons has become a widely-revered force within the fashion industry not only launching his own line, but also at the same time holding roles as the creative director for Jil Sander, Christian Dior, and Calvin Klein. While the reasoning behind the brand's closing is unclear, some insiders speculated that it may be due to the financial market the fashion industry is currently facing. There is also speculation that Simons wants to focus fully on his role at Prada. For his final show, Simons invited more than 1,000 guests including fashion students to the clubbing venue Printworks. The next time the public will see Simmons will be after the New Year in January at Prada's menswear show in Milan where he has as well been a co-creative director of the label since early 2020.
