Serena was born in Saginaw, Michigan, to Oracene Price and Richard Williams. She began playing tennis at the age of four alongside older sister, Venus. Serena had several different coaches and mentors as she was learning the sport, but as time went on her parents became her primary coaches. When Serena was ten years old her father stopped sending her to national junior tennis tournaments because he wanted her to focus less on tennis and more on school work.
Along with her sister Venus, Serena is easily one of the most decorated tennis players of all time. The Women’s Tennis Association has ranked her as the number one player in the world on eight separate occasions. She first earned this title back in July of 2002. The sixth time she earned this ranking she held the title for 186 consecutive weeks. In total she has earned the number one ranking for a staggering 319 weeks between the years 2002 and 2017. Serena also holds the most Grand Slam titles in singles, doubles and mixed doubles combined. She is also a record breaker with 13 Grand Slam titles to her name as well as the record for most titles won at the US Open. She shares this title with Chris Evert which means that she is the only female to ever accomplish this feat.
Besides tennis, fashion has always been a major passion of Serena’s. When she was 15 years old she opted to lighten her tennis training schedule so she could go to fashion school. In 2018 she launched her first fashion line in collaboration with Nike and HSN. The collection consists of several pieces that are designed with every women in mind. Her sizing ranges from XS up to 3X. She wanted to create a line that every women could wear regardless of how they are built. One of her signature pieces has the logo “I am beautiful, I am strong” embroidered on the sleeves. When it comes to Serena’s personal style it can be described as simple, classy and chic. Regardless of the event, she always looks extremely sophisticated. As of recently, Serena’s street style has been consisting mostly of her own creations to help get the word out about her brand.
