Luka Dončić was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia. According to his family, Luka first touched a basketball at seven months. at seven years old, he joined his first organized team. He played against ten year olds. His appetite for competition grew stronger. He moved to Spain when he was 13 for tougher competition. At 16 he became the youngest player to ever play for the Real Madrid club. Luka became Europe's unofficial Mr. Basketball. After winning two EuroLeague Rising Star awards, the ACB Best Young Player trophy and MVP award, Luka said goodbye to European basketball.
When Luka declared for the 20018 NBA Draft, he was 19 years old. At 19, he'd been an international professional for three years. Some teams still had doubts. The Atlanta Hawks took Luka with the third pick in the first round. The Hawks dealt him to the Dallas Mavericks on draft day. Luka was named NBA Rookie of the Month in the Western Conference for November 2018. He repeated in December. As Dallas coach Rick Carlisle predicted, it looks like the Mavs have their 'franchise foundation piece.'
Though born in Slavonia, Luka has found his American style with ease. The young star boasts a closet without borders. Cool jeans, trendy jackets and screen printed crewnecks all make the rotations. On any given night, Luka could pop up in a sweater & collared shirt combo under a stunning off-white peacoat. Thus far in his young career, Luka has failed to disappoint, before or after tip-off.
