Rayford Trae Young
Born in Lubbock, Texas
in Lubbock, Texas. His family moved to Oklahoma when he was very young. He started playing basketball his sophomore year of high school. That year he led his team to the Area Championship and was named Sophomore of the Year. Trae built on that success, becoming one of Oklahoma's premier recruits. The University of Oklahoma scored his letter of intent. In his freshman year he led the country in assists, turnovers, points, points per game, assists per game, and assist percentage. After his stellar rookie year, Trae declared for the 2018 NBA Draft.
Trae's draft placement was the cover story of ESPN for weeks. With many teams seeing him as the centerpiece for a future franchise, front offices across the nation buzzed with excitement. On draft night, Trae went fifth the the Dallas Mavericks. Hours later, the Mavericks dealt him to the Atlanta Hawks.The Mavs the rights to the 3rd overall pick, Luka Dončić. The Hawks got a protected future first round pick and their guy Trae Young. In Trae's NBA debut, he put up 35 points and 11 assists in a win over the Cavaliers. The Hawks never looked back.
