Serge Jonas Ibaka Ngobila

Ibaka's veins. Born in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, both of his parents played professionally. When his mother died at an early age, Serge found basketball to be a refuge. When his father was taken as a political prisoner in the Second Congo War, Serge turned fully to the sport. He moved to France when he was 17. He played in a second division league there and in Spain. He caught the attention of American scouts playing in the Reebok Eurocamp. After winning the camp MVP, he had the NBA's full attention.
Serge was drafted by the Seattle Supersonics. When the Sonics became the Oklahoma City Thunder, the club decided to keep him in Europe for another season. After one season, the Thunder brought him stateside. Serge's energy in the paint and skills as a defender earned him a spot in the Thunder's starting rotation. He was a force for them, becoming an elite defender. The league took notice. After five seasons with OKC, he was traded to the Orlando Magic. The Magic dealt him to Toronto after once season. The Raptors built around him. Toronto's new-look squad is one of the teams to beat in the East. With Serge on the floor, Toronto is one of the premier defenses in the league.
