Russell Carrington Wilson
Born in Richmond, Virginia
Virginia, Russell Wilson was an avid three sport athlete in basketball, baseball and football. Wilson committed to North Carolina State where he played both football and baseball. It was Major League Baseball, not the NFL, who made Russell a professional athlete. While still in college at North Carolina State University, the Colorado Rockies drafted Wilson in the fourth round. A disagreement with football head coach, Tom O’Brien over attending spring training with the Rockies, made Russell decide he would leave the wolfpack. He transferred to the University of Wisconsin for his final year of eligibility. In his one season with the Badgers, he brought the team to a B1G title.
Despite being the sixth quarterback drafted in the 2012 NFL draft, Wilson was the most impactful. He beat out two veteran quarterbacks before the season to secure the starting job. After bringing the Seahawks to the postseason, Wilson was selected as the rookie of the year. He cemented his presence in the league by taking home the Lombardi Super Bowl trophy in just his second season in the league. He’s the first quarterback to start in two Super Bowls in his first three seasons!
- -Russell’s late father was a huge New York Yankees fan and promised one day he’d play for them. He fulfilled that wish when the Rangers traded him to the Yankees and Wilson suited up on February 7, 2018.
- -Russell has his own clothing line, Good Man Brand, in which part of the proceeds go directly to his Why Not You Foundation.
- -His father was also a collegiate athlete and tried out for the San Diego Chargers, making it all the way til the final cut
