Russell Westbrook III
A native of Long Beach...
California, Russell Westbrook has become a basketball icon. A late bloomer, Russell was not heavily recruited coming out of high school. He didn't reach his playing height of 6'3" until the summer before his senior year. Deciding to stay local, he chose UCLA. In his two years at UCLA, the Bruins made it to the Final Four of the NCAA tournament in 2007 and 2008. After his sophomore year, Russell declared for the 2008 NBA Draft.
The Seattle Supersonics took the firecracker Russell with the fourth pick of the draft. Russell never wore a Sonics jersey as the franchise moved to Oklahoma City. He was a Thunder six days later. Russell rotated with the starters his rookie year. By the end he was an NBA All-Rookie First Team elect. Russell has been elected to the All-NBA Second Team five times. He's made the All-NBA First Team twice. He's played in seven All-Star Games and won MVP twice. He led the league in assists and was the 2017 League MVP. Russell was the first player to average a triple-double for a season since Oscar Robertson. He is the only one to do it twice.
- In February 2015, Westbrook was named Marketing Creative Director of the denim brand True Religion
- In 2015, he was the first player since Michael Jordan to have three back-to-back triple doubles
- Love it or hate it, Russell’s fashion has defined the New Wave for many NBA players, fans and critics
