Irvin Smith Jr.
Born in New Orleans, LA...
With the nickname ‘Swervin’ Irv’, flashy fashion and football plays are a given. Irvin Martin Smith Jr. was born in the big easy of New Orleans, Louisiana. Following in the footsteps of his father, NFL tight end, Irv Smith Sr., the younger Smith became a force on the field. Irv signed with the reigning National Champs at the University of Alabama. Rolling with the Crimson tide, he was able to establish himself as a versatile player and gain national recognition with his own National Championship ring in 2017.
The night before he was drafted, Irv chose a purple suit because he felt it communicated how he wanted to feel like a professional football player: regal, sophisticated and business-minded. Serendipitously, purple was in Irv’s future, as the Minnesota Vikings selected him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Continuing with the mysterious moments, the Vikings’ first preseason game also happened to be in Irv’s hometown of New Orleans and on his 21st birthday.
Irv states that confidence is the constant in the fashion choices he makes. While he navigates the fashion landscape of a professional football player, he tends to choose styles that are subtle at first but finish with a pop of personality in some aspect. Balenciaga is his rookie go-to designer, but finding smaller and new designers is a passion he’s exploring.
- Before he was even teammates with him, Stefon Diggs was a league style inspiration for Irv Smith JR
- After he’s done playing in the NFL, he has hopes to open a gym
- In addition to his father’s time in the NFL, his uncle Ed also played 7 years in the league
