Born in Kofu, Japan
Nakata has been referred to as one of the best Japanese football players of all time. He started his professional career all the way back in 1995. In 1997 and 1998 he won the Asian Football Confederation Player of the Year award. He also played for Japan in three World Cup tournaments during his career. He has also competed in the Olympics twice.
Nakata is best known for his speed, agility and passing skills. He initially started playing with Bellmare Hiratsuka when he was 18 but after a short period of time with them he was signed by Perugia which is part of the Italian football association. During his first season with them he scored 10 goals. After a season and a half he was moved to Roma where he spent many successful years. His time with the Italian league brought him one of his greatest accolades in 2005. He was made the Knight of the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity. This is one of the highest honors in Italy.
