ice hockey skates through the veins of Brent Burns. Making an impact within the Ontario Minor Hockey Association, Burns was drafted into the NHL by the Minnesota Wild in 2003. The 20th pick overall, Burns had grown up playing offense his whole career, but transitioned to defenseman as he turned pro. In the 2006-2007 season, he tallied his most 25 points including two big OT winners in March. The following year brought a bad Concussion injury, which after being misdiagnosed, caused him to miss the last 19 games. Still, he tallied 27 points. Burns was traded in 2011 in a combo-deal to the San Jose Sharks. Feeling fine in California, he signed a five year extension that August. In case his efficiency wasn’t abundantly clear, in 2013, he scored 20 points in 23 regular season games.
Burn’s breakout season came in 2015-16 when he brought home 75 regular season points. Then, he added on a whomping 24 points in the 24 games of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. All the while aiding in leading the Sharks to their first Stanley Cup Final appearance since joining the league 28 years ago.
